Much speculation has been made about sending manned missions to Mars. The focus of any such venture would be an assurance that the crew would not only survive the initial journey and mission on the planets surface but that they could return to earth safely. In order to provide this assurance, much more needs to be understood about how the human body adapts to foreign environments such as that found on the surface of Mars.
This presentation focuses on some of the challenges that human space flight poses for short, long and extended duration missions.
This presentation was delivered at the Young Engineers Space night on 30 April 2002.
